Let’s Take a Drive

Let’s take a drive

To the country

To run up the trails

In Shenandoah

To admire the vista

The white-tailed deer

Whose ears twitch

The sounds of buzzing

Bees in the heat

Coursing between meadow grass

Let’s take a drive

Buy picked fruit

From the farmer

Fresh peaches, juice

Sliding between fingers

Sweet smell of childhood

Embracing, hugging away

All that mess we left

Let’s take a drive

Pretend, it’s all right

Pretend we care enough

To talk, look each in the eye

Pretend we’ll be together tomorrow

Pretend we can find love again.
