So Not the One

I felt like a voyeur, but Ed wanted me there. I tried to hide on the couch. Ellie ignored me.

“Don’t you get I don’t want a relationship with you?” she asked.

“It was just sex?” he asked.

“What a waste of time that was!” She glanced at me. “He’s lousy in bed. A little worm. He wants to cuddle. He wants to be sweet.”

His pale, freckled face grew red. His eyes apologized to me.

“Some punishment,” I said.

“Huh? Yeah. Effing nice guys.”

We jumped as she slammed the apartment door.

“I somehow don’t think she’s the one.”
