Written for OctPoWriMo 2016. October 1 prompt is time.
Progress of Existence
From January to July—
so much.
Snow to sun,
cold to heat,
days developing
lengthening,
swings arcing,
innocence
celebrating
Then August,
evenings extended,
toes in sand,
ocean’s ebbs,
receding,
memories fragmented.
September
days shorter still,
moments ago
June
laughed girlishly,
short skirts,
now matronly wool
ankles swollen,
wrinkles elongated:
experience maps.
October,
thoughts
impress age,
body stirs,
desires dance
visions
of running
through leaf-laden
streets strong limbs
unpained,
taut arms
swinging rhythmically.
Dreams of childhood,
romance,
youthful ambitions
transitioning
to adult,
working,
life equates routines
conceals
seconds ticking,
background hums,
tocking
Believed there would be
enough:
time.
