I thought he knew what was in my heart
He never asked, I thought he knew
Because so many years we’ve spent together
I found today, when we sat at dinner in a restaurant
And his eyes darted everywhere, but at mine
That he knew, but it was as if I weren’t there
Nothing can make you feel more solitary, alone,
Then being in a building of strangers, most laughing,
Drinking, enjoying, made up, pretty, unaffected,
And you, there, with someone you thought loved you,
But feeling iceberg cold still your every limb,
And wishing you’d brought your i-phone despite your vow
To forsake it all for him.
