Level Me Up is a cute book in which Morgan attends her first Comic-Con after her best friend’s brother can’t make it. It’s love at first sight for Morgan and Dex, the gamer boy. Coincidentally and fortunately for them, Morgan and Dex both live in Chicago, which allows their blossoming romance to flourish.
For a reader who loves geeky characters and plots, this would seem to be an ideal novel with plenty of gaming and pizza, but it’s derailed by Morgan who is insecure and whiny and comes across as a young teen rather than a college graduate. Her neediness is frequently cringe-worthy.
Dex, on the other hand, seems like a great guy, patient and caring.
The audiobook narration struggled a bit, with the voices of both Dex’ best friends and Morgan’s best friends virtually interchangeable. Some phrasing made the prose seem stilted, which I don’t believe it was.
There are some steamy scenes and lots of pizza, which may make you want some cheesy goodness.
As always, these are my reactions to the book: your-mileage-may-vary.
