And off we go. Today is “A”. Just to refresh your memory (and mine 😉 ) I indicated that I would be doing a flash fiction story with no more than 200 words in a location beginning with letters A to Z. Today it’s Arizona!
It was 10 am. The temperature was already 100. You and I sat in the backseat of the rental with the guys in the front. You popped the top on a can of Miller and offered it to me. Everything in my world said “no” but I was trying to be your friend because I was crazy in love with your brother. So, I sipped.
Breakfast would be the next stop. Huevos Rancheros with salsa verde and refried black beans in a greasy spoon where men wore cowboy boots and glared at your tattooed, dark-skinned boyfriend.
REM played on the car stereo. “This one goes out to the one I love.”
This is a memory from another lifetime. In my head, I can still hear your chortle. In my head, the pool we frolicked in is replaced by the tub you died in.
There’s a picture of the four of us, the Grand Canyon the backdrop. The huge empty space gaping wide. Our smiles so innocent. I hear a giggle swept away by the desert wind. “This one goes out to the one I left behind.”

Nice start Sascha, a whole lot packed into those 200 words. Look forward to seeing where else we travel too.
A very belated but sincere, thanks. 🙂
An excellent A! So good to see you have the word limit, I’m afraid I rarely get to the end of tales that go on and on! I wonder where you will take us tomorrow.
