Anything and Everything
“Oh, Lenny,” Tam tries to hide her disappointment. A barge instead of a gondola?
“Ain’t it great? We’re cruising the waterways,” he says.
She smiles.
“I’ve even got some music.”
A heavy-set man steps onto the barge and belts out “La Donna e mobile” so loudly that Tam nearly falls overboard, but Lenny grabs her, pulls her close. She can feel his smile, how happy he is. Inwardly she shrugs. Anyone can get you a gondola ride, right?
A waiter appears with prosecco and a box of cannoli, her favorite.
Lenny raises his glass. “Anything and everything for you.”

Adorable!
Thanks, Phyllis!
They say it’s the thought that counts. It’s not entirely true, but they say it
Lol they do indeed. Thanks, Neil.
Oh, I LOVE Lenny.
It’s not where you are, it’s who you’re with. I hope she realizes he’s a sweetheart
filled with good intentions. Perhaps, his budget isn’t too big but his HEART IS.
Fabulous, Sascha ….
Isadora 😎
Oh, I think she does know. I think she’s used to expecting the unexpected. Thanks, Isadora!
This was absolutely wonderful. It’s the “who” that is most important, for sure… And he sounds like such the charmer…
(just add “ment” to disappoint…)
Ah. Thanks. Amazing how I missed that after chiseling down from 126 words! 🙂 Thanks, Dale!
My pleasure… I can reread something a bazillion times and still miss a typo… sigh.
Lenny is sweet and hope Tam is able to see that! Cute story Sascha 🙂
I truly think she does, Dahlia. Thank you! 🙂
If Tam could really be content with her barge trip, she’s remarkably well-balanced. Disappointment when it’s to do with romance is hard to deal with! Good old Lenny – he was trying hard.
What a moment, a precious moment she will cherish. I wonder why he couldn’t get her heart’s desire, or misinterpreted it, or deliberately choose to give her something else wrapping it up in the bow of deceit. Oh dear, now I want to write this story from his perspective. Well done, for engaging me and making me wonder…
Well, have at it. But I figured that Lenny tries, he just doesn’t always get it right. Maybe he doesn’t think a gondola so close to questionable water is that romantic….In which case, yay, Lenny!
If you write it, let me know. 🙂
Dear Sascha,
What a sweet little romance. Lenny’s a keeper for sure.
Shalom,
Rochelle
You have created a very engaging character in Lenny. Well done.
Thank you, Jilly. I thought it would be fun to create a guy who intends to the right thing, the sweet thing, but misses by a margin. 🙂
Lovely piece, Sascha. Even those of us who aren’t hopeless romantics found this one adorable.
Thank you, Russell! 🙂
A realistic romantic getaway. Makes for a good romantic comedy. The barge is just as good, more space. And as long as there’s cannoli, all is well.
I agree, Fatima. Who knows what else Lenny may have planned! 🙂
