Borrowed and Blue

Updated. I messed up. The obvious wasn’t obvious to me when I wrote it.

This piece has been revised to fit the parameters. 250 characters. The original is beneath the newly edited version.

Borrowed and Blue

“It’s okay,” he says.

“The wedding’s ruined.”

“I’m not marrying a dress. You’re all I’ve ever wanted.”

His expression says his words are true. I swallow hard.

“You’re my everything.”

I fall in love all over again.

Borrowed and Blue

I can’t look at him. This wedding’s a disaster. Something borrowed, something blue.

“Hey,” he says. “It’s okay.”

“My dress is ruined. The wedding’s ruined.”

His fingertips are soft upon my chin. I lift my eyes to meet his intense brown ones. “I’m not marrying a dress.”

His expression makes me smile.

He rolls his eyes. “If I were I would have married Mary Decker in third grade. She had the cutest little blue dress with a ruffle.”

Now I laugh out loud.

“You’re all I want,” he says. “You are all I’ve ever wanted.”

I swallow. Is there anything more wonderful than seeing that look in the eyes of someone you love? The look that says you are everything and always?

He leans forward, places a soft kiss on my lips. “You’re my everything.”

I think I fall in love all over again.
