Music Monday: Angel from Montgomery by Bonnie Raitt

Music Monday is a meme started by Drew @ The Tattooed Book Geek. Pick a song you really like and share it.

Once again, I get to share another of my favorite songs and artists with you. For this one, I’m once again going to switch it up a little bit by giving you one of my favorite Bonnie Raitt songs and then one of my favorite songs by her father, John Raitt, who was a Broadway performer and who had a phenomenal voice.

First, Angel from Montgomery was written by the incredible John Prine. It took 20 years for Bonnie Raitt to achieve the kind of success that she deserved far earlier, around the time that Angel from Montgomery came out–not exactly an overnight sensation despite having a lot of talent.

“If dreams were lightning thunder was desire
This old house would have burnt down a long time ago”

My mother loved musicals so I probably saw every single one that Hollywood produced up until her death. While Pajama Game has a good plot and some memorable songs, this is the song that most people who are familiar with musicals or music from the ’50s have probably heard.

Hey There John Raitt

“You with the stars in your eyes”
