This was written for dVerse, secret ingredient.
TLC
Christmas in the kitchen
flour integral décor
wide eyed children
“helping” to pour
a touch of this
a touch of that
pressing a candy kiss
in the cookie flat.
Grandmother kneads, rolls,
cajoles with a baked sweet
tosses in the bowls
the special ingredient
invisible to the eye.
“What’s that?” the children ask.
Her twinkling eyes reply
the secret for this task
“Is love!” they cry.

I wonder why my grandmother’s gingerbread tasted so much better… there was that secret my mother couldn’t solve.
🙂 Thank you.
Yes I felt it all. The “helping” in quotation marks most vividly:)

Love is the secret ingredient, perhaps more valuable than all the others,

Thank you so much. I think the whole baking from scratch that happened when I was a kid is a lost art…and it was done from love.
What a charming moment.
