Music To Make Your Heart Sing

Last night I watched the movie The Bookshop, starring Emily Mortimer and the incomparable Bill Nighy. It’s based on a book, which I have not read. The movie was good, despite a plot hole that may have been covered in the book. But the ending stunk. It was one of the worst movie endings I’ve ever seen. Hopefully the novel, which was shortlisted for the Booker Prize, had a better ending or at least was explained in a better way.

However, it wasn’t the movie or the book that instigated this post. No, it was the voice on the soundtrack that sounded like a less quivery Billie Holiday, a more subdued Barbra Streisand, a young more enunciating Judy Garland. That voice belongs to Ala.ni, a 26 year-old British singer. She has a special voice and I can’t wait to hear more from her. Enjoy the videos below and tell me what you think.

    1. I’d never heard of her before either, but after watching that movie and hearing her, I had to know who she was and then definitely share her to people like me who had never heard her.
