This is a repeat. And, yet, not a repeat.

The radio used to play this a lot. And when I was in a romantic phase, okay, when was I not in a romantic phase?, it echoed in my heart. Later, I read that Karen Carpenter’s favorite time of year was Christmas and that she put a lot into her Christmas songs.

When I was in my 20’s, I used to imagine the boy/man I was infatuated with would feel these same feelings at Christmas. How romantic it all was! Except, for, you know, the longing, and not being together.

The only thing I learned from all of this was: that even when you win, you sometimes lose.

I’ve said before, Karen Carpenter has a voice of the ages, a life gone too soon.
