MusicMonday

On the long drive home yesterday, which was actually quicker than usual, I heard “Over the Hills and Far Away,” one of my favorite Led Zeppelin songs. With that, I realized I’ve never had a Led Zeppelin song on Music Monday, and it was time to rectify that.

I came to Led Zeppelin late. No one I knew throughout my teens and 20s listened to them. Strangely, as I’ve gotten older, my music tastes have widened rather than narrowed. Hopefully I’ll never be one of those people who says that they never make good music any more, and those kids should shut that racket down.

“Over the Hills and Far Away” begins in a lulling way with Jimmy Page’s acoustic guitar intro followed by Robert Plant’s vocal, making you think this might be a ballad. Then boom. You get to hear John Bonham, who is widely regarded as one of the best rock drummers ever and who died far too soon.

This is an incredible, sexy, passionate song. Enjoy!

Many have I loved, and many times been bitten
Many times I’ve gazed along the open roadMany times I’ve lied, and many times I’ve listened
Many times I’ve wondered how much there is to know

Songwriters: Jimmy Page / Robert Plant
