“Of Life” was written for dVerse where we were asked to write about an element.
Of Life
I am the red embers glowing in the grill
the choking gas silently killing.
the bubbles in seltzer.
I am the strongest–some say–most beautiful gem
portraying the purity of love;
As well the weakest element,
capable of great beauty,
in the hands of artists and poets on paper.
Trees breathe me in sustaining you.
Despite this–
Because of this–
I am the basis of all life
not simply a carbon-copy.
