The Night There Was No Time To Recharge

We took a day off yesterday. But we’re back! This is an unchanged post from the original series. I hope you enjoy! 🙂

It’s in the stars
It’s been written in the scars on our hearts
We’re not broken just bent
And we can learn to love again

Just Give Me A Reason by P!nk

Flight lands at Dulles. I’m back. Traffic sucks. No time to recharge.

Immediately I call the hospital and ask about Dominic’s condition. Again. They still won’t give me information over the phone, although I’ve told them I’m his girlfriend. So much for Tansy’s updates.

I check in with the ICU nurse who glances at a file and shakes her head. “You’re not on the list.”

“Of accepted visitors.”

“But I’m his girlfriend. Please check again. Clare MacKay.”

“His girlfriend’s that tall blonde woman.”

“She’s his partner.”

“Partner. Girlfriend. Whatever.”

“No. I mean they work together.”

“Honey, what I saw with her snuggling up against him was not what I’d call work.” The nurse belly laughs. “Or maybe it was.”

“Please, there’s been some kind of mistake. Can I just see him for a minute?”

She studies my face. “Look, I’ll ask him if he wants to see you.”

“He’s conscious.” Relief flows through me, loosening all of the tension I’d been carrying around for over a week. “Yes, yes, please, check with him. It’ll be fine.”

Excitement wells in my chest. If I weren’t in a hospital, I’d probably be doing some crazy dance. He’s going to be okay!

When she returns, pity mellows her gaze. “He said maybe you can come back tomorrow.”
