Shell of Love #writephoto

It’s been a while since I’ve done #writephoto. Thanks, Sue, as always! Usually I do fiction, but a poem found me tonight. Maybe I’ll try a fiction when my mind ponders over it a bit more.

For visually challenged writers, the image shows a twilit beach, the sea shimmering in the low light. There are rocky islets silhouetted against the water and what might be a figure, running towards…or away from the waves.

Shell of Love

I think of you, us
the beach that day
as if yesterday,
but like sand spilling
through fingers
time stole away
graying our hair
graying our minds
removing bits of us--
or was that me? Or you?--
Until we were not the same
sometimes not even liking
each other,
sometimes not even loving
each other
etching different paths
through sand
while the mind glistens
with fragile shell memories.

  1. I love how you were inclusive by providing a description of the picture that inspired your poetry piece. Beautiful writing 😊
