Blackberry Memory
Blackberry picking cannot
be done quickly,
amble toward brambles
you’ll understand.
But a memory
dusted off this evening:
delighted Daddy
palms rubbing together
considering blackberry delicacy.
Forty-odd years later with clarity
I see his child-like glee
but of blackberry mush
I have no memory.

It’s funny how blackberries take so many people straight back to childhood. It seems much harder work now, and the blackberries seem less abundant.

One will always remember a loved one’s mood even if the occasion of mush blackberry is the one that started it. Like the reference to shared experience, Sascha!
