I feel like I should start a new meme entitled “The Songs That Fell Through The Cracks.” Why? Because thanks to YouTube, Pandora, etc., I am discovering songs that are a decade, two decades, or more old, songs I’ve never heard, and they’re fantastic. How have I missed these songs?
“Fade Into You” by Mazzy Star is one of these songs. It first hit the Billboard Charts in 1994. 1994! That is a billion years ago!
Anyway, I was watching YouTube, which sometimes becomes the Tube of Repetition when it’s on autoplay, but this time I received the gem that is “Fade Into You.” If you’d told me that the song had been written and recorded in the past 10 years, I would have believed you. While the song’s evidently been covered extensively, it’s this version with Hope Sandoval’s sensual singing that made me sit up and take notice.
I want to hold the hand inside you
Songwriters: Hope Sandoval / David Roback
I want to take the breath that’s true
I look to you and I see nothing
I look to you to see the truth
As I researched information for this post, I discovered that the co-writer of the song and Mazzy Star guitarist, David Roback died in February.
