Christmas 2020, A Quadrille #dVerse #amwriting

Many thanks to Lydia Lee Lyberg at dVerse for providing me with a word I only associated with wine: inglenook. Our task was to use “inglenook” in a quadrille, a poem of 44 words.

Christmas 2020

The fire snaps, crackles
embers soar upward
in the inglenook
we sing timeless carols
our hands warmed
by mugs of mulled wine.
This year we celebrate via
computer, touch fingertips
to screen, and sing:
"I’ll be home for Christmas
if only in my dreams."
