Guess what song I’ve had stuck in my head this morning? No! Not “Linger” by The Cranberries but their other huge hit, “Zombie.” Since I did a Music Monday of Zombie two years ago and used it as my last entry for the A to Z Challenge, I figured that “Zombie” has been well and truly done so I figured why not “Linger?”. And now, I have “Linger” stuck in my head.
I first heard “Linger” in the early ’90s, a melodic song that I probably only really knew the chorus to. It wasn’t until later that I read the lyrics and had a greater appreciation for what Dolores O’Riordan had written. And, now, of course, it’s always tinged with sadness at her passing too young, just when it seemed that The Cranberries might be revitalized.
And I’m in so deep
You know I’m such a fool for you
You got me wrapped around your finger
Do you have to let it linger?
Do you have to, do you have to, do you have to let it linger?
