Finding Fate by Keelan Storm Guest Post and Book Tour!

I welcome Keelan Storm and thank her for telling us how she came up with the characters for her new novel!

How did Keelan come up with her characters?

In the sense of writing them and developing them into the pages?…

Some things about these characters blossomed during that night of insomnia where the book idea popped into my head. I’ve always wanted to have twins. (Was not blessed with that, but I do have two adorable little boys.) Anyway, loving the twin idea, I knew two of the main characters needed to be identical twins.

I’ve also always had a thing for reading romance, and even now in my adult years, I enjoy older YA romance novels. So, I wanted to make sure that the romance element was there…but I thought it would be too neat and pretty to have both of the twins paired off and happy in relationships right away.

So, I made the decision that I’d have two main guys. One is already dating one of the twins, the other will start dating the second one at some point during the book.

Then I thought about the type of relationships and friendships that I would have loved as a teen and what I’m sure many teens crave. So I made the four of them best friends.

I digress…

While the twins are identical, I thought it would be boring to write EVERYTHING about them as identical. So I gave them distinct and unique personalities. One extroverted, one introverted. One girly, one bordering tomboy. Etc.. Etc… but with enough in common to maintain that strong twin bond.

Then the guys… once I knew who I wanted the twins to be, I worked on developing characters that would complement them in relationships.

For my couple that’s not dating yet…what would have kept them from dating so far if they’re so close? What traits did HE need to complement HER personality?

For my couple already together…this girl is more…I want to say high strung, but that’s a little intense of a word for it. She dates Jet. Jet was just whatever I needed him to be in Finding Fate. Once I learned more about him in book two (Surviving Fate), I went back and gave more substance to his character, knowing then the traits he held that complimented Annie.

As for their appearance…I think at the time I had read so many books that had blondes for the main pretty girl that I didn’t want to do the same. So Annie and Izzy are brunette. I gave them green eyes because I always found my brown ones dull.

Tucker is blonde because in my childhood I had a major crush on Zack Morris from Saved by the Bell.

Jet, for some reason, don’t ask me why, perhaps just to be different, I made him Greek. So he has black hair, but I did try to throw some uniqueness to his physique with the blue eyes.

Any other little physical characteristics or character traits and behaviors the main characters have were written in to give them interest and substance as I wrote.

In my initial draft, I didn’t even have a Facebook account yet, and I can’t even remember if pinterest was a thing yet. Everything about these characters came from my own head and creation. I’ve yet to find actors or models that fit EXACTLY what I picture them to be in my head.
