Music Monday: Oceans by Pearl Jam

August marks the 30th (yikes) anniversary of Peal Jam‘s incredible debut album Ten. That album produced so many great songs. When one thinks of the best slow song from the album, I suspect it’s invariably, “Black,” which I did a Music Monday of just little over a year ago. To take nothing away from “Black,” “Oceans” is also up there in the running.

“Oceans” by Pearl Jam is not one of their more complex songs musically. It’s slow, haunting, seemingly simplistic, except for Eddie Vedder‘s vocals and those lyrical words. A beautiful song, enjoy!

You don’t have to stray the oceans away

Waves roll in my thoughts

Hold tight the ring

The sea will rise

Please stand by the shore

  1. This is one of the first CD’s I ever bought, along with Faith No More’s Angel Dust and Nirvana’s Nevermind. It’s like it was just yesterday. This entire album is amazing. Great share ❤️

    1. 10 and Nevermind are incredible. You’ve caught me out again on Faith No More so I just went and had a listen and don’t think I’ve ever heard anything of theirs, which is kind of weird…but then, like books, so much music so little time. 🙂

      1. You’d probably be familiar with “Epic” because that was their most popular song. Angel Dust was and still is my favorite album by them. “A Small Victory” was always my favorite song on that album. Hope you enjoy it. 😉

      2. I am totally amazed that I have never heard any of their stuff and to discover that Mike Patton seems to be a force unto himself. I did watch Epic and immediately thought, Anthony Kiedis, which seems to be a trigger with fans of FNM after looking through the comments. 🙂
