The other night I streamed The Tender Bar on Netflix. It was based on a memoir of the same name by J. R. Moehringer. I really enjoyed the movie. It was nostalgic, quirky, and it may be the very first time I’ve ever liked Ben Affleck in a movie. He seemed down-to-earth and maybe a little vulnerable and kind, at least to his family.
Throughout the movie a lot of songs I remember from when I was a kid played. Some were like a memory, like this song: Good Time Charlie’s Got the Blues, which has evidently been covered by a LOT of people. In the film, however, they used the original by Danny O’Keefe. It fit the movie really well.
Have you seen The Tender Bar? What did you think? Wasn’t the music great?!
Everybody’s goin’ away
Said they’re movin’ to LA
There’s not a soul I know around
Everybody’s leavin’ town
Songwriters: Danny O’Keefe
I like The Tender Bar and Ben Affleck as well. Makes me wish I had a relative like that. I can’t believe he gave him his car, though. I would’ve bought him one and kept the classic. 🙂
Yeah! It was a quirky family dynamic but you could tell that through the occasional belligerence that they loved each other. A really nice film.
Loved it too! Old school writing – plus great soundtrack ❤️
