Brand New Day

Many thanks as always to Rochelle for Friday Fictioneers. And, my story’s here long before an hour before the party ends! 🙂

Brand New Day

Every morning I’d come here for the pecan pie muffins, always exclaiming, “These are better than the pie!” After the divorce, Ray won the coffee shop. And, the barista.

Rumors say she quit for wedding planning.

I slip in for a muffin.

“Maddy, long time,” Ewan says, emerging from his office.

I wave.

“I’ve missed you. You were the bright part of my day.”

“Only because I bought my weight in muffins every week. Kept your business running.”

How had I not noticed his smile?

“You’ll come back?” he asks. “For the muffins.”

“Definitely.” I grin. “For the muffins.”

And pecan pie muffins are a real and very beautiful thing. I use this recipe, but only with 1 stick of butter. 😉

  1. A winning smile, her favourite muffins – Who wouldn’t go weak in the knees for such a man? Great story and thanks for the muffin recipe. Yum.

  2. This has such a warm feeling. I’m glad there’s a happy ending waiting.
I’m not too familiar with English/American cuisine terms and couldn’t find a pecan muffins recipe there.

  3. As I was finishing my browsing of the comments here I thought, “The first sentence was enough. Food wins every time.” I loved the story and was hoping it could be a moving-on saga of a better future. Well done, Sascha.
