This Morning, a haibun

“This Morning” was written for dVerse where Frank asked us to write a haibun about “heart.”

White clouds across your eye lenses, yet your tail wags, sending seismic tremors through your body. Your wet nose finds my face, my eyes. Where have you been?

The joy. I hug you close, my heart in a dog-sized package. The happiness of reunion soars through me. Wakens me. Bliss subsides to a feeling hollowly bittersweet.

Season’s first snow.
Crow in the bony willow
caws for peanuts.
