The First Morning in March

The Capital Weather Gang (the always interesting (even if you don’t live in the DC area) and mostly right DMV weather group) has predicted that March may be more winter than February in the Washington DC area, but this morning it looks and sounds like Spring.

Willow trees begin leafing, March 1, 2023.

The following recording was made this morning using the Merlin app, which is an absolutely fantastic tool for identifying birds as well as keeping a running list of all of the birds you’ve seen and heard. In the following recording, Merlin identifies: American Robin, Carolina Wren, Dark-eyed Junco, American Crow, Mourning Dove, Song Sparrow, White-throated Sparrow, and Northern Cardinal. All of these birds have created a beautiful soundtrack to an equally beautiful morning.

I have no affiliation with the Merlin app other than being an avid user. I highly recommend it if you have an interest in birds. The app has a global coverage.

Happy March!
