So Literal

“I’m back,” Miranda announced.

“From?”

“The liquor store and paint store.”

My curiosity spiked. “Interesting combination.”

“Gin. Red paint. Paint brush. The bottle’s pretty but I don’t know if I like gin.”

“Why red paint?”

Her mouth fell open. “You know, you and Jill are always telling me to paint the town red. That’s what I’m going to do. It sounds boring though. Drinking and painting.”

I bit my lip. “What are you going to paint?”

“The streetlights on 4th.”

“Why?”

“How can it be a red light district if the lights aren’t red?”
