Love and Red Dust

Up until twenty to thirty minutes ago, this wasn’t happening. I haven’t made any secret about the fact that I just haven’t felt in tune with my writing, but maybe the Bahama Mama over dinner helped. 😉 Continue reading

Daydream Believer or Here You Come Again?

So, yup, I lied to you. This story was not finished on Sunday. I had a momentary crisis about writing about an imminent hurricane while one was actively destroying people’s lives. The destruction from Florence is unimaginable to me when I have been in those place, driven down those roads. And, yet, I know that these cyclones and hurricanes have been angry for several years now. Flooding to my friends’ families in the Philippines, Kerala, Hawaii, and elsewhere. My thoughts are with everyone who has suffered through so much.

I feel heavy and disoriented after my afternoon nap. Waking in the strange dormitory room of number 16 probably doesn’t help either. The only thing that does is Rufus resting his head on my arm the instant he knows I’m awake. He wags his tale, and I imagine he’s mentally yelling: Dinner! DinNER! DINNER! FOOD! Continue reading

Rolling in the Deep or Say a Little Prayer?

≡≡≡continued from here≡≡≡

Steve doesn’t linger, despite how much I might like him to. You know, just to catch up, ask how he’s been…find out if he ever married. Stormy Weather or 19th Nervous Breakdown?

≡≡≡continued from here≡≡≡

Of course, as I’m shoving the car door shut with my hip, Rufus’ aluminum water bowl goes clanging to the pavement with all of the subtlety of a gunshot. My eyes immediately raise toward Steve who has stopped, tilted his beige hat upward slightly, and is studying me. After all this time, I wonder if he recognizes me. The quick shake of his head tells me, why, yes, he does remember the cousin of the woman who broke his heart. Continue reading

Is This Hotel California or Margaritaville? A Romantic Serial?

First off, a song of hope.

I haven’t done a serial in so long that I think I may have forgotten how to write one. This one has its unfortunate inspiration from the storm brewing off the coast of the eastern US. As always, I welcome your input. If you have suggestions or criticisms, tell me (you know, as long as they’re about the story) ;). Thanks. And, if I’m a bit rusty, please forgive me. 🙂  Continue reading
