NaNoWriMo Day 14, Soup’s Off

Observations: When I finally got back to writing today, all of the morning’s momentum and writerly high vanished. This was back to feeling a bit painful.

NaNoWriMo Day 13, Soup’s Off

soup's off cover

Observations: Today’s my “off” day so I actually wrote a little before getting out of bed and saved it to “the cloud” (please say that in your best movie trailer voice). And, then when I wanted to review it on my pc before uploading, well, the cloud wanted to rain on my parade, but I ain’t having it.

Also, I’ve momentarily switched back to the “classic” editor because I have too much to do to worry about disappearing green lines…or any other lines for that matter. When I have more time, I am going to play with it.

What the heck is NaNoWriMo? So, I guess there are some of you out there who don’t know exactly what NaNoWriMo’s goal is. It’s simple: write 50,000 words during the month. At the end, you may, or may not have a novel. It’s presumed that your novels aren’t going to be Hemingway or King or Rowling, because every day is an effort to meet a quota…I wonder if I can add these words. 😉 Sometimes you just have to follow where the spark is taking you, which I bet a lot of you do as you write although you don’t share it so we don’t know. That’s why I said that reading these installment could be like watching a bad wreck in progress. I don’t have the leisure (or ability) to edit your memory for what you’ve already read, so I’m pretty much asking you to keep reading and see where it goes…just as I’m doing as I’m writing.

When it’s going well, it’s so much fun. It’s the high of writing highs.

Disclaimer: If you read the above paragraphs, you know what’s coming: it’s a draft! It’s a daredevil passage to wretchedness. Read at your own risk.

I’m behind by 2902 words (and no, I didn’t include the ones above…dang); and look I could block one unit, make it a color and still have it appear when I publish. Love you classic editor! 😉

ps I will definitely have another entry today to perhaps catch up and get ahead? (Insert ROFLMAO) Let’s hope!

NaNoWriMo Day 12, Soup’s Off

Disclaimer One: Yep, can’t be a good sign if I’m anticipating multiple disclaimers, can it?

I’m using the new wordpress editor. ‘Nuff said.

Observations: The writing slogged on this section. Slogged, bogged, fogged brain. Something to look forward to reading, am I right? 😉

Like yesterday’s break, I’m going to eat and then try to write more and hope that helps.

Disclaimer Two: This is a draft! Read at your own risk.

Total word count: 19,184

820 words behind for yesterday. Something to look into. It’s not obvious how to make one word a different color. Not discovering it now.

Oddly you can’t read green text in preview. We’ll see if it shows up after publishing. So much fun! 😉

Observation: I’m almost frightened to go back and look at the two previously posted days because the typos in this one were so bad…and I’m sure there might be more.

So, you probably noticed that I didn’t write yesterday. It might have been a good thing because I came up with a direction to go in. Yippeee!

Update: I will try to write another passage for today so that I can closer to where I should be, but a cup of tea and sustenance are in order.

Disclaimer: A draft! Maybe a very bad draft! 🙂 Read at your own risk.

for yesterday I would have been behind by: 291. If I don’t write anymore today, I’ll be behind by: 1958.

Observations: Honestly, I’ve been so busy today trying to figure out how to get my little rescue dog to me (without me roadtripping 1000+ miles) that I didn’t know if I’d settle myself down to write. Come on, what’s more important a beautiful dog….or NaNo? 😉

I am definitely writing for fun now. What are your impressions? Is this something, after being severely edited and molded, that you could imagine yourself enjoying?

My feeling at this point is that Sophie is only just beginning to come into her character. It’s a process of self-discovery.

Disclaimer: Yup, still a DRAFT. I have not read this one over. I apologize for that. I’d probably still miss a few typos…but not all of them.

And thank you to anyone who is actually reading this. You have my heart…well…not literally. 😉

NaNoWriMo Day 9, Soup’s Off

Observations: For me, writing fiction seems to be based on mood. I can force myself to write, and the end result will look exactly as if I’ve forced myself to write. In most cases, we get to redeem ourselves with a rewrite. For NaNo, that doesn’t exist. Ha.

Dialogue is still wanting to take over. For those of you who are reading, is this bad?

I am still open to suggestions. Thank you to all of you who’ve commented either here or via email. And I also so appreciate your encouragement.

Disclaimer: It’s almost 1 am here. I have not proofed this. This is draft written for NaNo. That should be enough said. 😉

NaNoWriMo Day 7, Soup’s On

Update: In case you didn’t notice, I didn’t write during the day yesterday. Too much going on and that can be a hazard when you’re trying to get those 1667 words a day done.

So, I’m providing this section for Day 7 and am desperately hoping to catch up this evening for Day 8. I hope that there will be another post this evening.

The good things is that I have a pretty reasonable idea of what the next bit is going to be and then it gets hazy. Really, really hazy. 😀

I am open to suggestions.

Observation: I can feel dialogue wanting to take over so I keep drawing back and trying to describe the scene too. That’s not as much fun as writing dialogue.

Observation: I am in such a different mindset than when I first started writing this novel. To be honest, I started out a bit afraid, but now I’m not. I don’t know if anyone is actually reading the posts, but I am seriously having fun. This is what writing should be because I think if you, as a writer, have fun, then your reader probably will too.

I thank you all so much for your encouragement. I’m only a week in and forty thousand words still to come. It’s an immense task, but it’s made much easier when you all have my back. Thank you! 🙂 If I get stuck, please throw out suggestions. Of. Any. Kind. 😉

Seriously, I have an idea of where this novel is going, but I may need some unique scenes, etc. coming up.

Disclaimer: It’s late. I’ve probably not read this over well so it might be worse than THE DRAFT that is. Many thanks.

And, if you are actually reading this novel, my thanks go out to you. You are very appreciated!

NaNoWriMo Day 5, Soup’s Off

Update: No observations today. I got none.

I just want to make a blanket statement of thanks to those of you who have continued to offer supportive words. Each day it’s getting more and more fun to tackle the writing, which is so much better than the pain of the first day. I think that this is because I’m just writing whatever comes into my head and hoping for the best and no longer stressing as to whether you all will think badly of my writing. It’s NaNo!!! 😀

In this passage, I’ve take up another of the suggestions offered by you all early on, this one from Anne, perhaps better known to you as HorseAddict. It may not have the darkness she intended, if she did indeed intend that. But really none of this is dark. Also, I think her suggestion might proliferate beyond the main character.

Disclaimer: Blah, blah, blah…DRAFT NOVEL! 😉 However, you may continue to stare as you would for a train wreck in real time.

Invitation: I have taken to heart as well as writing, all of your suggestions so far. If you have one, as long as it doesn’t involve beheadings or erotica, please write it in the comments.

Onwards, and thanks again!

NaNoWriMo Day 4, Soup’s Off

Observations: Today was an “oops” day, meaning what I wrote today was actually written after midnight, which really feels like yesterday.

However, it made up for today being an “oops” day so my word count is still good.

I’m posting late because:

there’s so much to do!!!!! yooooowwwwwww

The writing continues to flow, although I’ve got that short fiction mindset of feeling like some scenes are throwaways, although they’re needed for character development (if that is indeed what they’re doing 😉 ; let’s hope anyway, right? ).

Disclaimer: Even though I have read this over to make sure that after midnight I was still “somewhat” coherent (I figure that “somewhat” is all that’s needed…haha), there will still be typos, etc. that I missed as well as lapses in judgement. This is a draft; it may for all intents and purposes be worse than a draft…it’s a draft written Under Pressure…cueing Bowie and Queen.
